Together with his wife, Juana, and their son, they come into possession of a pearl worth thousands. People everywhere are looking to make money, and even pearl merchants attempt to swindle them. When Quino is attacked one day, he defends himself by killing the assailant. His brother advises that their only chance is to flee the village. However, as they strive to offer their son an education they themselves never received, someone might go to great lengths to stop them.
